Leviticus 25:8-55 defines the fiftieth, or Jubilee Year. “Jubilee” means “liberty.” God owns the land, and in the Jubilee, God wants the return (fruit of the harvest) of every man to his possession. In the parable of Husbandmen in Mark 12 this spiritual picture can be seen where God (pictured as a certain man) lends the land to Husbandmen (a picture of being given the charge or responsibility to bring the Gospel), We see from the parable the land was first lent to National Israel and then finally to the Church (Spiritual Israel).
Mark 12:1 And he began to speak unto them by parables. A certain man planted a vineyard, and set an hedge about it, and digged a place for the winefat, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a far country.
Mark 12:2 And at the season he sent to the husbandmen a servant, that he might receive from the husbandmen of the fruit of the vineyard.
Mark 12:3 And they caught him, and beat him, and sent him away empty.
Mark 12:4 And again he sent unto them another servant; and at him they cast stones, and wounded him in the head, and sent him away shamefully handled.
Mark 12:5 And again he sent another; and him they killed, and many others; beating some, and killing some.
Mark 12:6 Having yet therefore one son, his wellbeloved, he sent him also last unto them, saying, They will reverence my son.
Mark 12:7 But those husbandmen said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and the inheritance shall be ours.
Mark 12:8 And they took him, and killed him, and cast him out of the vineyard.
Mark 12:9 What shall therefore the lord of the vineyard do? he will come and destroy the husbandmen, and will give the vineyard unto others.
We also see in Luke 4 Christ is specifically identified HIMSELF with a Jubilee Message of “Liberty:”
Our liberty is accomplished through God's saving work of the Gospel. The Jubilee is a picture of the increase that is GOD's accomplished through the work of husbandmen bringing the Gospel.
Luke 4:16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up for to read.
Luke 4:17 And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written,
Luke 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
Luke 4:19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
Luke 4:20 And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.
Luke 4:21 And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.
The Sabbath was also a spiritual picture to show that we do nothing to get our selves saved, but we rest on the completed work of Christ.
Exodus 31:13 Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my Sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the LORD that doth sanctify you.
1Corinthians 6:11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.
Jesus Lord of the Sabbath
Luke 6:5 And he said unto them, That the Son of man is Lord also of the Sabbath.
A Sabbath rest is indication of the work is completed.
Hebrews 4:3 For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
Hebrews 4:4 For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.
The work of Christ to harvest the Souls of the believers:
John 4:34 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.
John 4:35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.
Christ Position was a Priest.
Hebrews 4:14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.
Hebrews 4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
Hebrews 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
Hebrews 5:1 For every high priest taken from among men is ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins:
Hebrews 5:2 Who can have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the way; for that he himself also is compassed with infirmity.
Hebrews 5:3 And by reason hereof he ought, as for the people, so also for himself, to offer for sins.
Hebrews 5:4 And no man taketh this honour unto himself, but he that is called of God, as was Aaron.
Hebrews 5:5 So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee.
Hebrews 5:6 As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
The Priest in the Old Testament completed their work (rested) at the age of 50.
Numbers 8:22 And after that went the Levites in to do their service in the tabernacle of the congregation before Aaron, and before his sons: as the LORD had commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so did they unto them.
Numbers 8:23 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
Numbers 8:24 This is it that belongeth unto the Levites: from twenty and five years old and upward they shall go in to wait upon the service of the tabernacle of the congregation:
Numbers 8:25 And from the age of fifty years they shall cease waiting upon the service thereof, and shall serve no more:
Numbers 8:26 But shall minister with their brethren in the tabernacle of the congregation, to keep the charge, and shall do no service. Thus shalt thou do unto the Levites touching their charge.
The 1st Coming and 2nd Coming of Christ are each associated with 50-year periods.
In John 8:56, Jesus gave us a picture of the End in HIS statement, “Abraham rejoiced to see my day.” In scripture we see “rejoicing” of all the seed of Abraham (Spiritual Jews) at the 2nd coming of Christ.
Revelation 19:7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.
The Jews (Natural Jews) who thought Jesus was referring to his first coming replied, “you are not 50 year old”. However, the 1st coming of Christ was at the end of the 8th Jubilee from the completion of the 2nd Temple in Jerusalem (End of that Jubilee - 407BC-7BC = 400÷ 50 = 8), so Jesus in his 1st coming did come on the 50th year of a Jubilee. Thus, Jesus on another spiritual level Jesus was referring to HIS 2nd coming where all the believers rejoice at his coming, because Jesus at his 2nd Coming comes before the end of the final 50th year of the Last Jubilee or 50th Jubilee (49 Jubilees each 50 years + 1 Jubilee Period less than 50 years = 50 Jubilees).
John 8:56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.
John 8:57 Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?
John 8:58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.
