Abstract from Kingdom of Priest - A History of Old Testament Israel by Eugene H. Merill p. 63 The Pharaoh of the Exodus When Moses finally returned to Egypt, he and Aaron began to negotiate with the new king, Amenhotep ll, concerning permission for of Israel to leave Egypt to worship Yahweh and eventually permanently. This powerful and militaristic monarch conducted a major campaign in Canaan in his third year (ca. 1450) and his seventh (ca. 1446). His seventh year coincides with the date of the exodus, 1446, so one cannot help but wonder if the decimation of Pharaoh's army at the Sea of Reeds might not followed this second campaign and had such demoralizing impact as to discourage further immediate adventures, especially to the north. |
